Jolin Tsai Changes for Love; in MV, She Encourages Women to Be Strong and Not to Hold It In

In her new MV for 大藝術家 [Da Yi Shu Jia] [Big Artist], 蔡依林 Jolin Tsai YiLin slaps the male lead across the face. The lyrics for the song, too, emphasize the strength and brutality of women. Jolin revealed that she's been reading a lot of books dealing with self-consciousness; she's discovered that she's not as strong as she'd thought-- she still has a weak and fragile side. These last two years, Jolin's life has changed a lot: she's learned the importance of relaxing and letting loose. When asked whether riding on a motorcycle is one of her new changes, she laughed, "I did it in the past, too... it's just that no one would ride with me."

It took 9 separate takes to film the MV's slapping scene; the face of the male lead was red and swollen. But who was Jolin thinking of while slapping him? Jolin laughed, "Probably the director! Because we had to stay up really late two nights in a row!"

Three years ago, Jolin took a month's leave to Canada to study French. She once said that to see no news about herself was a very happy thing. But upon her return to Taiwan and to work, she began her relationship with Vivian Dawson, and her frame of mind also changed and opened up. Through books, she began to explore and understand herself: there have been wounds, and there has been healing, and there has also been change, but Jolin won't say it's been for "anyone." Recently Vivian has been memorizing drama scripts and practicing his Chinese. When asked whether she speaks Mandarin with Vivian, Jolin nodded, "Yes, sometimes"-- a rare admission on her part regarding her relationship!

Jolin's new album, Muse, will be released on September 14. The album features 5 fast tracks, one of which, 迷幻 [Mi Huan] [Half-Conscious (Lost in Fantasy)]〉, is a tribute to gays and lesbians and for which sodagreen's 青峰 QingFeng contributed lyrics. Jolin said, "I have a lot of homosexual friends. I hope that, in today's modern society, young people will no longer be trapped or boxed in. They should bravely seek to be themselves."
