“I think he will understand,” said the teary-eyed Taiwanese singer Rainie Yang when she was questioned for being absent at her father’s deathbed.
At the Mercedes-Benz promotional event at Taipei on Tuesday, reporters asked Rainie if she felt sorry for not being able to bring daddy for a drive in her new Smart Cityflame car which was worth TW$755,000 (approximately SG$32,000).
The question left her stumped for a moment, but she eventually replied, “No, I don’t [feel sorry] because we had happy times together when I was young.”
According to past media reports, Rainie’s parents separated 16 years ago and the singer has not seen her father for seven years. Moreover, Rainie and her sister had to clear the heavy debt left behind by her father after his failed business attempt.
Despite the animosity between father and daughter, the singer-actress was emotionally distressed when she learned that her 61-year-old father had passed away from a heart attack last Thursday.
Describing her father’s death as part and parcel of life, Rainie also disclosed her family’s decision to keep the funeral a low-key event.
